Early Tuesday morning, an encounter between a driver and the Littleton Police Department escalated into gunfire, resulting in the injury of one individual. As reported by 9News, the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. near the intersection of West Belleview Avenue and Keenland Court in Englewood. The location is just west of another major crossing at West Belleview Avenue and South Federal Boulevard.
According to CBS News Colorado, the events unfolded when the suspect, having been pulled over in a traffic stop, exited the vehicle and pointed a weapon at the officers. Shot by the officers, he was subsequently transported to the hospital with injuries. No officers were harmed during the confrontation.
As The Denver Post reports, the driver was allegedly armed with an unspecified weapon. It was the act of pointing this weapon at officers that prompted multiple Littleton officers to discharge their firearms at the suspect.
