In a series of raids that unfolded over recent months, Fairfield authorities have cracked down on illegal cannabis operations, shuttering eight properties linked to substantial hazards in local neighborhoods. The Fairfield Police Department, in a social media post, reported seizing over 8,234 marijuana plants and issuing around $4,117,000 in fines in collaboration with Code Enforcement, CA Cannabis Control, Special Operations Team (SOT), and Patrol units.
Of the properties targeted, two particular raids were carried out just this past weekend near Gary Filati, where authorities served warrants and issued citations exceeding $979,500. The concentrated efforts to not only shut down but also financially penalize these illegal grow-ops come as a response to the many risks they pose. According to the Police Department's post, the threat is not confined to the production of cannabis. Rather, it includes the potential of electrical overloads, fire hazards, exposure to dangerous chemicals, irreversible structural changes to properties, propane hazards, and even entanglement risks. Such operations are often believed to be connected to perpetrating other criminal activities.
All houses linked to the recent shutdowns have been connected to Chinese nationals, as reported by the Fairfield police. "While cannabis is widely accepted as a social norm across the country, indoor grows continue to pose a serious threat in our communities," the Fairfield Police Department noted.
