As year-end approaches, Fort Collins landlords and property managers are scrambling to comply with rental registration requirements. The city is offering a lifeline in the form of a "Registration Rodeo." The city's final support event, set for Dec. 7 at the Fort Collins Senior Center, aims to guide property owners through the registration process before the Jan. 1, 2025 deadline, according to an announcement on the City of Fort Collins website.
Landlords will have the opportunity to work face to face with City staff, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to register properties, clarify any queries they might harbor, and collect resources that could help them navigate the obligations of registration on top of that, they can partake in raffle drawings and enjoy complimentary breakfast and coffee, RSVPs are requested at the city's event page. Not all local dwellings fall under the mandate; owner-occupied rentals and those in mobile home parks have been granted an exemption from the annual registration ritual. But, for those on the hook, fees start at $37 for single properties and an extra $10 for each unit within larger complexes, per the guidelines detailed by the city.
"The Rental Registration Program allows property owners to self-certify that their units are meeting minimum housing standards, promoting safe housing choices for our community," Alyssa Stephens, the City of Fort Collins Rental Housing Manager, emphasized the initiative's aim to bolster living standards. In a measure designed to spur participation, Fort Collins is dangling the carrot of monthly prize drawings alongside other inducements for registering before the last day of December this year. On the City's website, they assert the full registration process can be wrapped up online in less than ten minutes, making compliance ostensibly less burdensome.
