The City Council has given the green light to a significant rezoning initiative to reshape the housing landscape along North University Drive. In Council District 9, the Spring Hill Apartments and Spring Glen Apartments will yield a new vision that marries affordable housing with heightened accessibility and shared community spaces. Detailed by the City of Fort Worth, the decision retains a multifamily focus while carving out opportunities for office space structured to enhance the walkability of the urban street front.
At the heart of the plan, Fort Worth Affordability Inc. will remain proprietors of both land parcels, ensuring the continued provision of budget-friendly living options. Erected in the nostalgia-tinted year of 1962, the current 430 units will be supplanted with structures encouraging residents to mingle in openly designed surroundings that exceed the city's minimum open space stipulations. The phased development, as reported, commences with office space and 350 residential units breaking ground in 2026, followed by the construction of an additional 325 units set to initiate in 2029.
The city's release outlines the ambitious scope of the project, revealing an array of on-site amenities to enrich the resident experience. Future dwellers will be privy to a 10,000-square-foot interior amenity space, inclusive of co-working facilities, alongside a fitness center and a club room tailored for both work and leisure. Residents can also anticipate the inclusion of a dog park, a swimming pool, and spaces dedicated to outdoor games—infusing daily life with touches of recreation and social interaction.
