As the holiday season heats kitchens across Fort Worth, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the City of Fort Worth want to cool down the potential problems caused by improper disposal of cooking fats, oils, and grease (FOGs). According to the City of Fort Worth, these substances can lead to blocked pipes and environmental issues if poured down the drain.

A Holiday Grease Roundup campaign is in effect through January 10, inviting citizens to dispose of FOGs responsibly. One can take these byproducts to the City's four drop-off stations or the Environmental Collection Center. This approach safeguards household infrastructure and contributes to the creation of alternative fuels.

Instructions for FOG disposal include pouring cooled fats, oils, and grease into a sealable container for drop-off. For more stubborn grease, residents are advised to use paper towels to absorb the residue and then discard the paper towels in the trash. The city also urges scraping plates and pans before rinsing and preferring composting over garbage disposals for food scraps.
