On Thanksgiving Day, Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott joined forces with Meals on Wheels Central Texas to extend a helping hand to families and the homebound elderly in Austin. Taking time from their holiday schedule, the First Family dedicated their efforts to the charitable tradition of meal deliveries in the spirit of the season.

"The Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving Day delivery is one of the most cherished traditions for our family," Governor Abbott said. He encouraged fellow Texans to embrace the holiday's giving spirit, "Every year, we are honored to volunteer with Meals on Wheels to fight hunger among the elderly community in the Greater Austin area. The giving spirit truly embodies this holiday, and we encourage everyone in Texas to support those in need within their communities. We wish all Texans a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving," according to the Office of the Texas Governor press release. Accompanying the Governor, First Lady Abbott shared her sentiments. "We are thankful to spend Thanksgiving as a family helping the elderly community of Greater Austin," she commented.

In alignment with the First Family’s actions, Meals on Wheels Central Texas President and CEO Henry Van De Putte also expressed his gratitude for their partnership on this special occasion. “All of us at Meals on Wheels Central Texas are proud to deliver hot, nutritious meals, along with important safety checks to help the older adults we serve age in place safely and with dignity," Van De Putte stated. He highlighted the impact of such volunteerism, "On this Day of Thanksgiving, we are particularly grateful for Governor Abbott and his family for their longstanding support for our mission as they join us in delivering meals to our community. Over 3,000 Central Texans, and thousands more across this great state, rely on our programs every day, and we are able to meet their needs through the support of great volunteers like the First Family and so many others who are here day in and day out,” as noted by the Texas Governor's official website.
