A former convicted drug dealer, Jose Negron-Cardona has been returned to prison after assaulting a domestic partner. The 49-year-old, initially sentenced in 2008 for drug-related charges and firearm possession was released into a supervised program in 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas.

After two years of freedom, Negron-Cardona found himself on the wrong side of the law once again in Grand Prairie, where, he committed a violent act against a partner on June 5. The U.S. Probation Office quickly filed for a revocation of his supervised release following, the incident. U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade revoked Negron-Cardona's release after the victim's alarming testimony and statements from prosecutors during a hearing.

The assault, which included preventing the victim from contacting emergency services and severe physical attack, led to a new sentence of 10 years in federal prison. The victim, whose identity remains confidential, recounted the ordeal in court, stating that the assault by Mr. Cardona led to her losing consciousness after being repeatedly struck in the face.

"If this defendant thought he could savagely beat a woman without repercussion, he was sorely mistaken," stated U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton, as per the U.S. Department of Justice. For the next decade, Simonton noted, "his victim will be able to sleep soundly at night knowing he is once again behind bars." The Grand Prairie Police Department led the assault investigation, and prosecutors Michelle Winters and Ted Hocter were credited for arguing the case leading up to the revocation.
