Officers are conducting patrols across the city to check seat belt use during traffic stops for other violations. In Nevada, not wearing a seat belt is a secondary offense, so officers can only ticket drivers for it if they are stopped for another violation first, according to the City of Henderson's official website.
The Henderson Police Department has received a solid $179,000 in federal funding through the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program. This funding is to bolster initiatives such as "Click It or Ticket." The campaign is part of a national effort by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which boasts a national seat belt usage rate of approximately 91.9 percent as of 2023, as per the City of Henderson release.
Seat belts are a critical safety measure for drivers and passengers alike. Their proper use can dramatically reduce the risk of ejection from the vehicle in a crash. Moreover, wearing a seat belt is said to reduce the risk of death by up to 45 percent for those in the front seat. The campaign's main goal is to reinforce these safety norms and ensure that everyone on Nevada's roads is protected to this extent.
