Hilliard is stepping up its safety game for pedestrians with a brand-new barricade system, set to appear at this weekend's Tree Lighting event. Hilliard Ohio Government's website reported that these barricades aren't your standard hefty concrete blocks—they're a lightweight yet formidable solution capable of halting a 5,000-pound truck dead in its tracks.
Residents planning to drive through the area on Sunday should note the scheduled closures. Main Street from Norwich to Franklin Street, Center Street from Main to Columbia Street, and Franklin Street from Main to Columbia Street. This new system, courtesy of central Ohio-based Asynt Solutions, offers an innovative approach to keeping community gatherings secure without the cumbersome weight of traditional barricades.
The barriers, constructed from advanced composite materials, have been specially designed to fit the needs of the city's spaces. They also boast a proprietary anchoring system that Asynt Solutions claims will provide durability and security essential for protecting local events. Plus, these barriers are easy to install and remove, making them a reusable asset for various community functions.
Ensuring the safety of attendees at public gatherings has become an increasingly prominent concern. "Whether it be intentional or accidental, vehicle ramming must be prevented at community events," City of Hilliard Division of Police Lt. Tyler Harris emphasized in a statement. Lt. Harris conveyed the city's history with various barricade systems, noting the new system's ease of deployment: "The barricades can be easily dropped into the roadway," he told the City of Hilliard Ohio Government.
While Hilliard's initiative reflects a growing trend towards smarter safety measures, it also underscores a delicate balance—protecting people while preserving the spirit of public festivities. The new barricade system could strike that balance, quietly standing guard while the community lights up the holiday season.
