A high-speed chase in Vallejo ended with the arrest of a juvenile after local police spotted a stolen vehicle and gave chase, only to call it off for public safety. The Vallejo Police Department detailed the events in a social media post, rounding up the narrative of a pursuit that started with a routine license plate check.
Last Monday, VPD officers identified a black Nissan 370Z that turned out to have been stolen from Redwood City. Attempting a traffic stop near Maple Avenue and Springs Road, the officers' signals were met with disregard as the juvenile driver hit the accelerator. Prioritizing the surrounding community, officers promptly ceased their chase, instead calling on the California Highway Patrol Air Unit for assistance.
The airborne unit didn't take long to spot the Nissan parked blocks away on El Sendero. VPD officers arrived on the scene to see the driver making a break for it, an attempt that lasted about half a mile before his capture. "The driver, later identified as a juvenile, ran approximately half a mile before being apprehended," related the Vallejo Police Department in the post.
A search of the vehicle later revealed an unregistered firearm in the glove box. After detaining the juvenile, officers informed his mother of the situation and forwarded the minor to the Solano County Juvenile Detention Facility. Meanwhile, the firearm was secured as evidence, and the owner of the Nissan was alerted to their vehicle's recovery.
The juvenile's identity has been withheld due to their age, and the department has not released further details on the aftermath of the arrest or potential charges faced.
