Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced a significant stride in public transportation with the Metro Board of Directors' approval of a hefty $798 million to finalize the extension of the Metro A Line to Montclair. The unanimous vote ushers in a new chapter for Claremont and neighboring communities along the 210 corridor that will be linked by this anticipated expansion. According to a statement issued by Barger, the project "will afford Claremont residents the mobility benefits other cities along the 210 corridor have been able to access for many years."
The agreement, greenlit on October 31, promises to weave together a fabric of convenience and opportunity, connecting individuals to cultural, recreational, and educational centers. Barger extended her gratitude, "especially directors Sandoval, Najarian, and Solis; our state legislative delegation," and others, for their relentless support. As stated by Barger, the vital monetary injection includes SB 125 transportation funds earmarked for LA Metro and prioritized by the board itself, fostering a community-wide effort to see the project to fruition.
Upon completion, Phase 2B1 of the Metro A Line is set to open to the public in 2025, which comprises the segment up to Pomona. Planning ahead, the final leg (Phase 2B2) will reach beyond, forging a path from Pomona to Montclair in San Bernardino County, "including a station in Claremont," the County of Los Angeles noted.
