To promote civic participation, Laketran, the public transportation agency in Lake County, will offer free rides to voters on Election Day. "Transportation should never hinder anyone from exercising their right to vote," Laketran CEO Ben Capelle said via the City of Mentor website. This initiative, aimed at ensuring all residents have the opportunity to cast their ballots, will cover both local bus routes and the Dial-a-Ride service.
Tomorrow, the public transportation system is determined to directly assist in getting voters to the polls by waiving fees across its Local Routes 1-9 and Dial-a-Ride service. Passengers need only to inform the bus driver that they are heading to vote or have already done so for the cost to be waived. Those opting for the Local Routes service can expect this convenience without advanced notice. However, riders wishing to use the Dial-a-Ride option must call ahead to book, with reservations accepted from 1 to 12 business days before the required date. In a statement obtained by the City of Mentor, it was noted that there will not be in-person voting at the Board of Elections on Election Day.
Operating hours for polling locations in Lake County are from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., giving voters ample time to use the free transportation services. Those needing to locate their voting spot can contact the Lake County Board of Elections or access their website for assistance.
Laketran is making strides to advance voter accessibility and provide a free ride. The service underscores the importance of every vote and citizens' rights to take part in the democratic process. Lake County residents wishing to take advantage of the Dial-a-Ride program can easily schedule their free trip by calling Laketran Customer Service or checking out additional details on the City of Mentor website.
