A devastating fire, ignited by an electric space heater, ravaged a Lakewood apartment building early Friday morning. As reported by KDVR, the incident which occurred near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Ammons Street, led to the dislocation of four residents and the tragic demise of two cats.
Official responses were prompted at 4:47 a.m., with firefighters rushing to the scene. According to 9News, the building's complex roof structure, extending across the five-unit edifice, exacerbated the situation leading to the building's destruction. Two of the units were unoccupied at the time of the disaster, and authorities believe an electric space heater inside one of the vacant apartments, left on to prevent pipes from freezing, is the culprit.
The repercussions of this calamity extend beyond the immediate loss. As detailed by The Denver Post, the fire spread violently into the ceiling, eventually consuming the entire structure and leaving a palpable void in its wake. Authorities are now investigating the exact sequence of events that led to such a rapid escalation of flames.
