The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a forecast detailing that the Las Vegas area can anticipate a variety of weather conditions as we approach the weekend. Starting out with a mix of mid and high clouds throughout the week, residents can expect dry conditions accompanied by a slow warming trend. However, as we head into the weekend, there's an increasing chance for precipitation, with rain and mountain snow predominantly in the picture, especially across the Sierra.

According to the latest update from the National Weather Service, Friday night will mark a shift in weather patterns where winds will begin to notably increase over higher terrains. There is also an expected spread of rain and snow chances into parts of Inyo and Esmeralda counties. Meanwhile, the weekend holds the promise of breaking the tranquil weather spell as the upper-level ridge breaks down, allowing a deep low/trough from the NE Pacific to gradually move southwards and bring an atmospheric river into play.

As reported by the National Weather Service, this change means that by Saturday, precipitation will start affecting western portions of Inyo and Esmeralda counties, yet the clear majority of the region is predicted to stay dry, with less than a 20% chance of precipitation. But come Sunday, the situation alters as increased chances of rain spread east, with the entire area seeing a 20-60% chance of precipitation by afternoon hours.

While most valley locations are looking at less than a 30% chance of receiving significant rainfall, the potential for impact grows among the mountains. The Sierra and White Mountains are expecting 25-75% chances of at least minor winter impacts above 7000 feet. In terms of winds, the National Weather Service forecasts include 40-70% chances of gusts hitting over 40 mph across specific regions this weekend. Consequently, Saturday’s temperatures are set to rise, with highs forecasted to be 2-8 degrees above normal before gradually dropping back down near or below typical values come Sunday through Tuesday.

In regards to aviation, the forecast for Harry Reid International Airport suggests light diurnal wind patterns to continue through the period, with a shift to southwest winds post-sunset. Although occasional clouds at 20,000 feet are expected through the afternoon, skies are predicted to clear by nighttime. Aviation staff and travelers should anticipate the possibility of higher wind gusts and chances for precipitation from Saturday into Monday.

For regions outside the Las Vegas area, such as southeastern California and northwestern Arizona, similar light and diurnal wind patterns will persist through tomorrow, except for some breezy conditions expected at Bishop Airport (KBIH) this afternoon. Elsewhere, spotters and the general public are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and report any significant impacts following standard operating procedures.
