In Las Vegas, Officer Kevin Borja turned a dramatic rescue into a heartwarming adoption story. One hot June day, a tourist told him about a puppy trapped in a car with the temperature outside reaching 112 degrees. The car's windows were barely cracked, offering no relief from the heat. Officer Borja rescued the puppy, and the story quickly gained attention, according to News3LV.

"As we got closer, we could hear the dog whining," Officer Borja said, recounting the urgency of the situation to 8 News Now. Borja and his partner acted quickly, breaking into the car to retrieve the distressed animal, who was confined to an opened box without water or a collar. After the rescue, Officer Borja found a casino valet nearby from which he secured water for the parched puppy, saying, "The dog went through nearly a whole 12-ounce cup of water."

The puppy, subsequently named Theodore, was taken to a local animal shelter following his rescue. Despite the demands of his job, Officer Borja felt an unshakeable bond with the cocker spaniel and started asking about adopting him. "I probably checked in every day, calling the shelter and even going there," he told 8 News Now.

His dedication didn't waver, and on the day Theodore was available for adoption, Borja and his wife arrived at the shelter three hours before it opened. He recalled meeting another potential adopter in line but, fortunately, he was the first one there to claim the pup. “I hoped that if he couldn’t come home with me, he’d at least go to a good home," Borja said, expressing the relief and joy of bringing Theodore into his family, as per 8 News Now.
