Lee Canyon is preparing to welcome both skiers and mountain bikers for a unique crossover event, as the resort opens earlier than usual this season. According to a release from the resort, the Rabbit Peak chairlift, designed for beginners, will begin operations tomorrow, marking the start of the ski season in the Spring Mountains, as reported by 8 News Now.
The unusual timings, with the mountain biking season still in play until Sunday, speak to the peculiar weather patterns of 2024 — riders will zip down trails even as early birds hit the fresh powder. Josh Bean, Lee Canyon’s director of mountain operations, underscored the impact of their snowmaking investment, claiming, "Lee Canyon’s investment in snowmaking capabilities lets us deliver this stellar combination of adventures to our guests," as he told News 3LV.
Last year, the tropical tumult of Storm Hilary delayed the season's start, but thanks to technological upgrades and favorable cold snaps, the popular resort close to Las Vegas is bouncing back with a more ambitious schedule, with possibly more terrain opening as conditions permit. Enthusiasts can check future dates and hours of operation at the resort's website, www.leecanyonlv.com, and partake in the annual Pray for Snow Party, which boasts a host of activities.
Over the past five years, the resort has invested more than $17 million in enhancements, including two new chairlifts, a downhill bike park, and a significant expansion of snowmaking facilities. Wolf Creek in Colorado holds the title for the earliest opening this year, having welcomed visitors since October 22, 2024. As per 8 News Now, they celebrated shortly afterward with the Pray for Snow Party at Hillside Lodge, aiming to boost spirits for a powder-rich season.
