
A violent carjacking occurred in Seattle's Wedgwood neighborhood on Monday evening, leaving a 26-year-old man shot in the leg. According to the Seattle Police Department, the incident happened around 8 p.m. near the 2100 block of Northeast 85th Street, where officers found the victim outside his apartment complex waiting for help.
Upon arriving, police administered first aid until the Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in stable but serious condition. Robbery Unit Detectives have taken the lead on this case.
The investigation uncovered that the victim had been standing in front of his apartment building when an individual, described as wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a black face mask, confronted him. The confrontation escalated quickly when the suspect produced a handgun and demanded the victim's personal belongings, including the keys to his car. Following the victim's refusal, a physical fight broke out, during which the suspect shot the victim in the leg.
The suspect was able to seize the car keys and flee the scene in the victim's own vehicle, a Kia Optima. The police are now issuing a lookout for the stolen vehicle. Community members have been reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that might help in retrieving the stolen car and apprehending the suspect. No arrests have been made at the time of this report, and the investigation by Robbery Unit Detectives is ongoing.
