Marion residents, take note that as you prep your Thanksgiving feasts and holiday plans, various city services will observe altered schedules for the holiday. Mayor Bill Collins's official word confirms that City Hall offices will be shuttered both Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, directing citizens to adjust their businesses accordingly.
Not forgetting the alteration, on Wednesday, November 27, City Hall offices will undergo their early closure ritual. As noted on the City of Marion's official website, "offices in City Hall will be observing their weekly early closure day," including the Municipal Court office and the Utility Billing office, which will close their doors at 2:00 p.m.
Sanitation services will pause Thursday, eliminating trash, recycling, yard waste, and leaf collections. Acting on efficiency, the Sanitation and Streets Department crafts a double-duty Friday, resuming their services for both days' collections. According to the City of Marion's official communication, residents who typically wheel their bins out on Thursdays are advised to have collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Friday. Leaf collection, too, will pick back up on that date.
Bus riders be advised: Marion Area Transit will be put on hiatus, offering no services on Thanksgiving day or the following Friday. Regular routes and schedules will return on Monday, December 2. In a similar fashion, the Marion Senior Center plans to shut its doors on these dates, falling in line with the city's overall reduction in operations—dialysis transport being the lone exception, provided on Friday only.
Even as things quiet down for the holiday, rest assured essential services like fire, police, and airport operations will continue without a break. If you depend on these services, they'll stand by, ready to serve as always, even amidst the Thanksgiving lull. Residents can visit the City of Marion's website for more detailed information on the closures and schedule changes.
