Over the weekend, a coordinated effort from law enforcement officials in Maryland dismantled more than six illegal street racing events across Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties. In a late-night operation, the Maryland Car Rally Task Force, along with the Maryland State Police Special Operations Division and various police agencies, targeted and disrupted crowds that gathered for what has become known as 'takeovers' in designated areas.

These gatherings, characterized by stunts and exhibition driving, have been a growing concern in the community, with up to 350 individuals coming together to participate or spectate. According to the Maryland State Police, locations such as 12011 Indian Creek Court in Beltsville and 4392 Nicole Drive in Lanham were intercepted at various times on Saturday night. Multiple arrests were made, with charges ranging from disorderly conduct to exhibition driving.

Highlighted in the crackdown was the recovery of a stolen Chevrolet Corvette and the arrests of Shakari Prue and Anthony Sandoval. Prue, a 21-year-old resident of Jessup, faces multiple charges, including disorderly conduct and traffic-related offenses. In contrast, Sandoval, 19, of Parkville, has been charged with additional crimes, such as fireworks discharge without a permit. This recent action is part of ongoing efforts initiated by the task force since June 2024 targeting illegal exhibition driving that disrupts traffic and presents risks to public safety.
