
In a remarkable confluence of timing and vigilance, a deer hunter in Southern Michigan has emerged as an unexpected hero in the apprehension of a fugitive. Last Friday morning, on the launch of firearm deer season, the hunter reported a suspicious man near his ATV, unaware that he had stumbled upon the subject of an active manhunt. Michigan State Police along with other law enforcement agencies had been scouring the area for the 28-year-old Battle Creek man wanted for a series of crimes including a violent hit-and-run incident.
WWJ Newsradio reported that the encounter unfolded when the hunter noticed the individual acting peculiarly around his four-wheeler. After a brief verbal exchange, the hunter's instincts led him to contact authorities. Per the Michigan State Police, the fugitive had earlier rammed a car his girlfriend was in multiple times, followed by erratic driving on Michigan Avenue that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash.
The suspect's vehicle became disabled, prompting him to flee into the wooded landscape where destiny had him cross paths with the unsuspecting hunter. As per the Battle Creek Enquirer, the hunter played a pivotal role by promptly alerting law enforcement, which precipitated the fugitive's arrest.
According to details from ClickOnDetroit, the Battle Creek man is now facing charges that encompass assault with a vehicle.
