Tragedy struck the Windy Acres senior living facility in New London, Ohio, on Friday morning when three people were shot, one of whom died. According to a report by NBC4i, the incident involved a resident shooting two employees before taking his own life. New London Police Department confirmed the shooting occurred just after 10:50 a.m., and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is assisting with evidence processing.
Further information released yesterday by Police Chief Joseph Hicks, as reported by Cleveland19, revealed that the 70-year-old suspected gunman, identified as Roger Murray, filed multiple repair requests for his apartment and felt they were not being "adequately met." Hicks noted Murray was preparing for an upcoming site inspection at the time he shot the two office workers. Both of the injured employees were able to escape through a window from a locked office quickly and were taken to the hospital and subsequently released to recover at home.
The shooting has deeply shaken the community of New London. The Windy Acres facility, located at 96 Clifton St., is now grappling with the aftermath of violence in what is meant to be a sanctuary for the elderly. As per the report from FOX8, police found no additional victims or suspects, and the injured workers, a 52-year-old New London resident and a 56-year-old Lorain County resident, have been released and are now resting at home.
