North Carolina, through the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT), has partnered with NC 211 to improve residents' access to online resources. This collaboration will help individuals across the state secure internet services and navigate digital tools essential for modern life.

According to a North Carolina Department of Information Technology release, NC 211, supported by the United Way of North Carolina and 47 local affiliates, traditionally provided information on health and human services. It is now expanding to include digital literacy, email setup, and locations with free Wi-Fi or computer labs. Governor Roy Cooper stated, "Their work with NCDIT highlights how essential connectivity and access to online resources are for all North Carolinians."

Hurricane Helene highlighted the importance of digital accessibility, especially during crises. NCDIT Secretary and State Chief Information Officer Jim Weaver emphasized the partnership's role, stating, "Partnering with NC 211 helps us connect North Carolinians to services they need to safely get online to work remotely, access educational resources and use telehealth," in the same release.

United Way of North Carolina's president and CEO, Brittany Pruitt Fletcher, said, "United Way of North Carolina is thrilled to partner with NCDIT to bring new opportunities through our Digital Equity and Literacy program. This collaboration strengthens our commitment to ensuring all North Carolinians have access to the digital skills and resources they need to thrive," in a release by the North Carolina Department of Information Technology.

Residents in need of these expanded services are encouraged to reach out by dialing 2-1-1 or 888-892-1162. A conversation with a trained community resource specialist is promised to be free of charge but confidential, ensuring that every individual's situation is handled with due care and linked to the appropriate local resources.
