The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is hosting festive events for the holiday season, offering something for everyone at low costs. Whether it's stargazing at Jockey's Ridge State Park or singing with the North Carolina Symphony, there are events to suit various interests, according to a North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources press release.
The Holiday Star Party Food Drive on Friday invites star enthusiasts and community members to Jockey's Ridge State Park from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can donate canned goods to the Beach Food Pantry, and telescopes will be provided by the OBX Astronomy Club and Dare County Library. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the event will move to Saturday.
The Polar Express at the North Carolina Transportation Museum offers a festive experience inspired by the classic movie, featuring caroling and holiday entertainment. Families are invited to join in their pajamas from this Friday to Sunday, next Friday to Saturday, and additional dates in December from 1, 6-8, and 12-23.
According to the same release, concertgoers can enjoy the festive spirit with the North Carolina Symphony's "Holiday Pops" at the Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro on Tuesday next week. From Wednesday to Saturday next week, Cirque Holiday Pops, a mix of acrobatics and classical music, will be performed at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. Santa will also be in the lobby before the show for early arrivals.
The Museum of the Albemarle's School Days Colonial Christmas, running from Dec. 2-20, offers students a chance to explore history through hands-on activities, reading a colonial Christmas book, playing games, and taking home a keepsake bell from the Albemarle Express model train. These activities connect visitors to North Carolina's history while celebrating the festive season.
