In a significant development within the aviation industry, President Joe Biden has lauded the newly forged contract between the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and Boeing, a pact that promises a substantial 38% wage hike over the course of four years.
The agreement, benefiting some 33,000 Machinist workers, also aims to improve retirement prospects and uphold fairness in the workplace. This deal stands not just as a triumph for the labor force but also as a cornerstone for Boeing’s trajectory within the vital aerospace segment of American industry, according to a recent statement from the White House.
Biden credits the success of this negotiation to the combined efforts of his economic team, including key players such as Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su and National Economic Advisor Lael Brainard, iterating that this is indicative of how collective bargaining can serve as a powerful tool to enhance the working conditions of the American workforce and by extension, fortify the economy from the center expanding outward, and from the lowest echelons climbing up—echoing a sentiment of economic growth that is inclusive and builds upon the contributions of every stratum within the labor hierarchy.
