Raleigh police have recently apprehended a third suspect in connection with the October 26 shooting at Crabtree Valley Mall. The 21-year-old, Tyrone Davis McNeil Jr., was taken into custody yesterday and is facing charges of felony speeding to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and four counts of misdemeanor hit and run, as reported by CBS 17. This arrest follows the previously detained suspects, Jamarion Quaben Burton and Jaquez Anthony Brown, both charged with felony discharging a weapon into occupied property.
The incident, which has now led to quickly accumulate three arrests, unfolded in a parking deck on the Creedmoor Road side of the mall. It notably involved gunfire that resulted in damage to several vehicles—an estimated 22 cars were affected, with around 12 directly hit by bullets. Although the shooting resulted in significant property damage, reported at around $20,000, there were no physical injuries reported. This detail was relayed by WRAL.
Among the affected parties, a Macy's employee, Kevin Croitz, found his vehicle damaged from the gunfire while he was inside working. In response to the hardship, Croitz’s sister, Cathie Croitz Holman, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of the damages.
Officials have described the shootout as being "cowboy-style," signaling a chaotic and seemingly uncontrolled exchange of gunfire, as mentioned on WRAL. During a court appearance, Wake County Assistant District Attorney Matt Lively described the harrowing scenario wherein bullets entered a car with two teenagers inside, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old. Lively indicated more charges are likely forthcoming, a detail revealed in a statement gathered by ABC11.
