A health alert has been issued across 26 U.S. states and several Canadian provinces due to a recall of cucumbers by SunFed Produce over potential salmonella contamination. The cucumbers, shipped between October 12 and November 26, have been flagged by the Food and Drug Administration. Shoppers are advised to check for affected products and take precautions, accordig to KSAT.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 68 cases of salmonella linked to cucumbers. SunFed's President, Craig Slate, said, "As soon as we learned about this issue, we acted immediately to protect consumers." A recall has been issued, but the full scope is unclear. The FDA advises customers who bought cucumbers during the affected period to check with retailers. Consumers should also wash surfaces and items that may have touched the cucumbers with hot, soapy water or a dishwasher, as stated by Yahoo.

Salmonella infection causes symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps within six hours to six days of exposure. Most people recover in about a week, but infants, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems are at risk for more serious problems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends seeing a doctor if symptoms don't improve. SunFed Produce has stressed its focus on food safety, saying, "Here at SunFed, food safety and consumer health and wellness have been our priorities for more than 30 years." The company is working to improve growing conditions, water sources, and hygiene practices to prevent future issues, as reported by Yahoo.
