In Santa Rosa Police, a fatal collision has claimed the life of a United States Postal Service employee. The collision occurred yesterday at the Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street intersection, where a GMC Denali SUV struck the postal vehicle and its driver.
According to the social media post from the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD), the accident occurred at approximately 5:05 pm. It was detailed that multiple 911 calls described a dire scene with a male victim lying in the roadway, believed not to be alive. Upon arrival, SRPD officers and medical teams promptly pronounced the victim, identified as Irvin Hernandez, a 33-year-old local resident, deceased at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the driver of the SUV was seemingly having a medical emergency when he lost control of his vehicle, leading to the unfortunate event. The driver was transported to a local hospital to receive care for minor injuries. Through witness statements and surveillance video, SRPD Accident Investigators and Evidence Technicians established that erratic driving behavior preceded the collision. Ironically, the SUV's uncontrollable traverse ended in the front yard of a Corrigan Street home, leaving the postal vehicle idle in the middle of Northpoint Parkway.
Anyone with information regarding this incident has been encouraged to contact Officer John Fisher at 707-543-3600 ext. 8550 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
