Two Santa Rosa residents have been arrested following a series of law enforcement raids that uncovered a substantial psilocybin mushroom cultivation operation. The Santa Rosa Police Department reported that their narcotics team initiated an investigation in October, which led to the apprehension of 26-year-old Jose Reyes Jr. and 38-year-old Travis Troxell on suspicions of their involvement in the cultivation and sale of the controlled substance. According to the Santa Rosa Police, the detectives executed multiple search warrants in the area, finding not only psilocybin mushrooms but also firearms and other illegal items.
The first raids occurred yesterday when Troxell was detained in his vehicle on Old Redwood Highway in Petaluma. Investigators discovered ammunition, a taser, bear mace, and several thousand dollars in cash. The subsequent searches of premises linked to the suspects resulted in the seizure of unlawfully made firearms, MDMA, LSD, and a money counter, laying bare the scale of the drug operation. Reyes was taken into custody in the block of Apache Street, where officers found significant evidence, including multiple firearms and substantial quantities of drugs and money.
In what appears to be the centerpiece of the operation, law enforcement discovered roughly 10,000 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms in various growth stages within warehouses at the 1300 block of Ross Street in Petaluma. As detailed by the Santa Rosa Police, this seizure reflects one of the larger busts in the area.
Consequently, Reyes and Troxell are now facing several charges related to the illegal drug trade and gun possession. The Sonoma County Jail is currently holding the duo, with Reyes facing supplementary charges for assault weapon possession and an additional count related to drug sales.
