Earlier this week, Los Angeles witnessed a high-speed pursuit that ended with the arrest of two suspects. The Simi Valley Police Department initiated the chase when an officer suspected the driver of a vehicle driving under the influence and subsequently confirmed the vehicle as stolen from San Diego, as reported by KTLA. The chase, involving speeds surpassing 100 mph, eventually led to Los Angeles County, where it concluded in dramatic fashion on residential East Hollywood streets.
According to an officer with the Simi Valley Police, the pursuit began close to 7:45 p.m. and involved a black Chevy Camaro. The vehicle was reported stolen out of San Diego, leading to a collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department who provided an airship for aerial tracking, KTLA noted. The freeway chase eventually spilled onto side streets with the suspects' vehicle hitting speeds north of 60 mph.
The pursuit terminated near the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Berendo Street in East Hollywood when the vehicle came to a stop and two individuals fled on foot. They were captured after a brief ground search, led by officers and supported from the air. "The driver and passenger ran out of the car at around 8:15 p.m. and fled in separate directions. An LAPD airship stayed overhead," according to the Simi Valley Police. The passenger was detained almost immediately, while the driver was discovered hiding in a dumpster, as FOX LA detailed.
Authorities identified the driver as 20-year-old Ronnie Ray Moore from Corona, CA, and the passenger as 21-year-old Jason Yanez Guzman from San Diego, CA. They are currently facing charges including reckless driving, felony evading, and driving a stolen vehicle, as per the Simi Valley Police Department.
