A 41-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of being under the influence after Troy Police responded to a call at Buscemi's restaurant on Rochester Road. When they arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., they discovered him slumped over the wheel of a Toyota RAV4 with the engine running, as reported by Fox 2 Detroit. Officers on the scene observed signs of intoxication and conducted sobriety tests which the man failed, leading them to administer a breath test that indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .24%, which is three times the legal limit of .08%.
The subsequent arrest revealed even higher intoxication levels, with a chemical breath test returning BAC results of .305% and .309% further sobriety tests confirming the man's incapacitated condition, he was cited under Michigan's super drunk law defined for cases where the BAC is over .17% during a search of the man's car, police found a partial bottle of bourbon on the front passenger seat, mlive reports.
Another incident involving high levels of alcohol took place earlier that week when a three-car crash in Troy led to the arrest of a 62-year-old Sterling Heights man; officers who responded to the area of John R and Big Beaver around 7:10 p.m. noted that the man exhibited slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, and breath tests showed he had a BAC of .22% on the scene with later tests at the Troy Police Lock-Up indicating levels of .26% and .27%, more than three times above the threshold for legal impairment, noted by Audacy.
This case is part of a broader trend of high BAC levels in traffic incidents in Troy, Michigan. While full details of the multi-vehicle collision have not been disclosed, two of the involved drivers reported minor injuries. The 62-year-old man has been charged with operating a vehicle with a BAC of .17% or higher and failing to maintain an assured clear distance. Authorities have not released his name.
