A 15-year-old boy was shot in the Bronx, marking another incident in a rash of youth violence plaguing the city, according to police reports. The incident occurred at a subway station on River Avenue and West 167th Street Saturday night around 10 p.m., wherein the teen sustained a leg wound detailed by the NYPD and reported by The New York Post. The alleged shooter, 20-year-old David Ayenengoye, was arrested at the scene and faces charges including attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm.
On the timeline of recent violent episodes involving city youths the shooting precedes a Thursday altercation in which a 14-year-old boy was stabbed during midday and a Tuesday event where a 14-year-old Staten Island boy was likewise stabbed, purportedly by a teenager aged 13 as reported by police and detailed by FOX 5 New York. Further editorializing the violence spike, two additional incidents were recalled that occurred Monday in the Tremont section and in Flatbush, Brooklyn where 16-year-old boys were respectively shot and injured.
Emergency medical services transported the victim of the latest Bronx subway shooting to Lincoln Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition; the NYPD has not disclosed the name of the victim as of now. The precise motivations behind the string of attacks involving young people in New York City remain uncertain as the authorities continue to investigate these matters.
