Three adults were found deceased in a west Columbus home on Wednesday, a tragedy that has sent ripples through their community. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 24-year-old George Bennett, 22-year-old Kaitlyn Christian, and 24-year-old Phillip Stump, as reported by ABC6. The discovery was made on the 60 block of South Warren Avenue, near West Broad Street, in the central Hilltop neighborhood.
According to the Columbus Division of Fire medics, the three were pronounced dead at the scene at around 6:24 p.m., shortly after officers arrived. Police have indicated that they do not suspect foul play and believe that drug overdoses caused their untimely deaths, per details from an NBC4i article. However, the specific substances involved have not been disclosed as investigations continue.
As the community reeled from the loss, a vigil was held last night to remember Bennett, Christian, and Stump. The event was a sad reminder of the pervasive issue of drug overdoses that haunts many American neighborhoods. "Detectives say they do not believe foul play was involved," the ABC6 report underscores, highlighting the suspected nature of the incident as an overdose.
The continuing investigation by Columbus police appears to strongly consider overdose as the cause of death, though the final determination awaits autopsy reports. "It appears that the deaths are suspected overdoses," a spokesperson with Columbus police conveyed to WBNS. The results of these reports are awaited not only to provide closure to grieving families but also to potentially guide community and policy actions to address the drug crisis more effectively.
