Former President Donald Trump is suing CBS Broadcasting Inc. and CBS Interactive Inc. in Texas for $10 billion, claiming they aired a doctored interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on "60 Minutes." Trump alleges that the interview, broadcast on October 5, was edited the next day to make Harris look better regarding her comments about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the My San Antonio.
Trump claims that CBS's actions "amounts to a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election," alleging they caused significant damage to his campaign's fundraising and support, especially in Texas. The lawsuit was filed in a northern district court of Texas, overseen by a judge Trump appointed. On October 7, he expressed his views on Truth Social, demanding, "RELEASE THE TAPES FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA," and suggested that the alteration of the interview should end Harris's campaign, as reported by the My San Antonio.
Responding swiftly, CBS and 60 Minutes issued a statement, as relayed by AA News, contending Trump's lawsuit is "completely without merit." They maintained that the interview was "not doctored, and 60 Minutes did not hide any part of the vice president’s answer to the question at issue," adding that the interview was "60 Minutes fairly presented the interview to inform the viewing audience, and not to mislead it."
Although the president has a history of filing lawsuits against various news outlets, including ABC News, he recently claimed that CBS "should lose their license and take 60 Minutes off the air." This latest legal action is among the most bold of his attempts, occurring just days before the election on November 5. Trump's suit against CBS reflects his ongoing aggressive stance toward media practices, which he hinted at earlier this month, as stated by AA News.
