Two Houston firefighters sustained injuries while working to extinguish a significant blaze that swept through a house in the Timbergrove neighborhood yesterday afternoon. The emergency call was placed at 4:38 p.m. for a residence on Cindy Lane. KHOU 11 reported that the incident involved heavy smoke and a concerted effort by dozens of firefighters to quell the flames.
Approximately 35 firefighters from ten fire units responded to the call. A neighboring resident, Adam Ahmad, recalled being roused from sleep by his dog's barks to find black smoke and towering flames that had managed to set a nearby tree ablaze. Firefighters were forced to quickly pull hose through his home to effectively launch an attack from the rear, a move that also served to safeguard his property. "They took these two hoses from the front door right over here," Ahmad told Click2Houston, indicating how the firefighters had endeavored to control the fire and, as he put it, save his house.
The two injured firefighters came from station 38, as detailed by KHOU 11. One suffered burns to their hands while another twisted their left knee.
District Chief Valerie Seymour reported to Click2Houston that both were attended to at a nearby hospital for their minor injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
An air conditioning system blowing smoke before bursting into flames was reported by the occupants of the house—a husband, wife, and child—caught in the unfortunate incident. Their property closely borders the CenterPoint Energy Eureka substation, where the flames were said to have inflicted minor damage to the transformers. A spokesperson from CenterPoint assured that power restoration efforts would likely conclude by this morning. At this time, the fire's origin remains under scrutiny by authorities.
