Governor Greg Abbott announced that US Foods, Inc. will expand its food distribution facility in Buda, Texas. The expansion is expected to create 165 new jobs and generate over $120 million in investment. The company, known for its wide range of food products, received a $1,072,500 grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) to support the project.
"This significant investment in Buda brings 165 new, good-paying jobs for hardworking Texans in Central Texas and showcases the strength of our state's economy," said Governor Abbott. Among the benefits highlighted by Abbott were Texas's favorable business climate, reasonable regulations, and a skilled workforce. Senator Donna Campbell mirrored the optimism, celebrating the potential for new family opportunities and economic fortification that the project represents. In her own words, "With 165 new jobs and an impressive capital investment, this project isn’t just about business growth, it’s about giving families new opportunities and strengthening Texas's economy. Thanks to the Texas Enterprise Fund, we’re not just investing in Texas businesses but in the future of Texas and our communities," a statement obtained by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The regional impact of the expansion has not gone unnoticed. Senator Judith Zaffirini emphasized the significance, saying, “I am pleased that US Foods, with the support of our Texas Enterprise Fund, is expanding its existing facility in Buda, bringing 165 good-paying jobs to Senate District 21,” a statement obtained by the Office of the Texas Governor. Furthermore, she noted the positive influence the increased capacity will have on food distribution, particularly benefiting Austin's renowned food scene.
Local leadership in Buda is equally enthusiastic about US Foods' commitment to growth, with Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky asserting the expansion will create job opportunities critical to achieving a good quality of life in the city. Echoing his anticipation was Buda City Manager Micah Grau, who expressed gratitude for the TEF award that facilitated this positive growth, crucial for community success. The expansion effort not only reaffirms US Foods' investment in Texas since opening their Buda warehouse in 2011 but also manifests as a promising development in the city's ongoing economic narrative.
The symbiotic relationship between the community and the corporation was further highlighted by the Buda Economic Development Corporation CEO Jennifer Storm, who stated, “We are honored to have our first Texas Enterprise Fund investment in Buda, which helped us land the US Food expansion,” according to Office of the Texas Governor. The prosperous venture thus cements both the state's commitment to fostering business opportunities and the practical outcomes of private-public collaboration in Texas, ensuring sustained economic vitality and improved living standards for residents of Buda and beyond.
