This December, Wake County Animal Center is inviting locals to consider adopting a furry friend through their "Home for the Holidays" campaign, running from Dec. 1 to Dec. 22. Aimed at finding homes for animals during the festive season, the center is reducing adoption fees to $25 for dogs and just $5 for cats, as announced in a recent news release on Wake County.

In an attempt to ensure every shelter pet has the chance to enjoy the warmth of a home during the holidays, this initiative is a step to notably reduce the financial impediment of adopting a pet. Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings expressed in the news release on Wake County website, "This season, let's make sure every pet has a home for the holidays."

Right now, the shelter is housing 98 dogs, three puppies, 23 cats, and 16 kittens, all of which are waiting to make a connection with their future families. Additionally, there are 39 dogs, 13 cats, and 17 kittens currently in foster care that are also available for adoption. These pets come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with up-to-date vaccinations, details shared in the center's news release on the Wake County website.

If adoption isn't in the cards for some, the Animal Center still encourages the community to contribute. Interested parties can donate essential items listed on the shelter's special holiday wish list, or choose to give monetary donations to directly benefit the animals' welfare. Dr. Jennifer Federico, director of the Wake County Animal Center, highlighted the impact of community support, stating, “Whether you adopt, donate or simply spread the word, you’re helping make this season brighter for animals in need,” as reported by the center's press statement on the Wake County website.

The shelter, located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, is open daily for adoptions from noon to 6 p.m. Those interested in adopting can visit in person or take a look at the adoption gallery online. For more information about the pets or how to contribute, visit the Wake County Animal Center's website.
