On the cold morning of Christmas Day, the Adams County community was jarred by the discovery of an abandoned 1-month-old baby lying in the median of Pecos Street. The Adams County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident took place around 9:20 a.m. after a Good Samaritan called 911 upon finding the infant at 7490 Pecos Street. The baby was then taken to Children's Hospital Colorado for precautionary measures, as reported by Denver7.
Following the alarming event, the parents of the one-month-old were taken into custody. The details surrounding the moments leading up to the child's abandonment are still unclear. However, the baby did not appear to have any visible injuries, according to a social worker who is currently with the baby at the hospital as detailed by CBS News Colorado. The timeframe in which the baby was left alone has yet to be determined.
Authorities initially reached out to the public in hopes of identifying the misplaced child and bringing the responsible party to justice. "We are hoping someone recognizes the car seat or knows something about the baby or family so he can be reunited with his loved ones and the person who abandoned him can be brought to justice," the Adams County Sheriff's Office stated, per CBS News Colorado. In an update later in the day, they expressed gratitude for the public's assistance in locating the family, as noted by The Denver Post.
According to The Denver Post, the case quickly garnered significant attention on social media as the sheriff’s office posted a picture of the car seat the child was found in. The agency acknowledged the community’s role in the case's development by posting, “Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word for this case.” As the investigation continues, the baby remains in the hospital under observation, and the parents are facing as-of-yet-unspecified charges related to the incident.
