Tragedy struck a North Philadelphia neighborhood on Tuesday evening when a 15-year-old girl, identified as Angelique Holloman, was fatally shot multiple times, local authorities reported. The gunfire, which resulted in 21 shots being fired, occurred on the 2700 block of North Dover Street where Holloman resided, 6abc noted. Despite the presence of a firearm inside her bag, officials say that Holloman did not discharge the weapon. "So it appears that the female never got a chance to pull the weapon or shoot the weapon because when police found her, the gun was still secure," Chief Inspector Scott Small explained, as mentioned in a statement obtained by WHYY.
The Philadelphia Police Department arrived at the scene following multiple 911 calls around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, where they discovered Holloman unresponsive on the sidewalk. After being transported to Temple University Hospital, she was pronounced dead, NBC Philadelphia reported. Small noted that the majority of the 21 shell casings were found just inches to a few feet from Holloman, suggesting the shooter or shooters were nearby during the attack.
No arrest has been made in the case yet, and investigators continue to seek leads. The Philadelphia police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and call 215-686-TIPS (8477). The details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, and the community is left to grapple with the violent loss of another young life.
Philadelphia has offered additional resources for individuals and communities affected by gun violence. These resources aim to provide support and information in the wake of such tragic incidents. Further details can be found through local outreach programs and the police department's efforts to engage the community in violence prevention and response initiatives.
