An 18-year-old man was wounded by gunfire yesterday in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood as city police responded to a shooting incident, local media reports confirmed.
According to WPXI, the Pittsburgh police were summoned to the scene in the 100 block of N Euclid Avenue at around 6:24 p.m., where they found the young man with a gunshot injury to his leg. Police stated he was conscious and responsive to officers during their initial assessment. Furthermore, the victim was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
A ShotSpotter alert, which detects and conveys the sound of gunfire, had registered six rounds fired just before 6:30 p.m., WTAE reported. Officers discovered the man at Garland Park, a short distance from where the alert had placed the gunfire. First responders acted quickly, securing a tourniquet on the man's leg to stem the bleeding until medics could take over his care.
Witness accounts detailed by WTAE mentioned a small gray SUV that was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting. While specifics on the vehicle's involvement remain murky, police have not yet released information regarding suspects or a possible motive. As the neighborhood wrestles with the fallout of this violence, the investigation by the Pittsburgh police is actively ongoing, with officers gleaning information from local surveillance and witness testimonies.
