As the holiday season unfolds, Wake County Animal Center has unveiled a campaign aimed at encouraging the community to embrace the spirit of giving – not to fellow humans, but to the many shelter pets in dire need of a home. The campaign, dubbed "24 Tails of Holiday Cheer," introduces a daily spotlight on a different shelter pet starting yesterday through December 24, reminiscent of an advent calendar but to find these animals a forever home.

With a straightforward appeal not to be a Scrooge this season, Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings underscored the importance of generosity. "Don't be a Scrooge this holiday season—open your heart and home to a shelter animal in need," Stallings was quoted in the Wake County announcement. She encouraged adopting to transform the lives of these animals and enlighten your own life with kindness. Prospective pet owners can follow these stories through the Animal Center's social media platforms.

The campaign is also an opportunity for past adopters to share their stories using the hashtag #24PETtails, thus creating a community narrative around animal adoption. The end goal is to not only decrease the number of shelter animals over this period but continually to create everlasting bonds between pets and humans in the community.

According to the same announcement, the Wake County Animal Center has a variety of pets up for adoption, including 98 dogs, three puppies, 23 cats, and 16 kittens. Adopting a pet from this facility will be cost-effective for the new owners since all the animals are already spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on their vaccines, a significant saving on initial veterinary costs.
