
An incident in Adams County this past Saturday resulted in deputies shooting a man, reportedly after he wielded an axe in their direction, the confrontation occurred during what was initially a welfare check, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputies arrived at around 4:45 p.m. in the 7600 block of Heather Place, near Zuni Street and West 76th Avenue, north of Denver, and by 5:20 p.m. the situation escalated to gunfire.
The man, whose identity was not released, was then transported to the hospital, though specifics regarding his condition were not immediately disclosed however, according to 9NEWS, the deputies had engaged with the man for some time before the incident and had given "several commands for him to drop" the axe-like implement as he advanced towards them; meanwhile, no deputies were reported to be hurt in the episode.
As reported by CBS News, a spokesperson for the Adams County Sheriff's Office stated that the circumstances leading up to the deputies opening fire were still being clarified, including the number of deputies involved. While the cause and extent of the man's injuries were not initially provided, subsequent updates may soon illuminate these critical points.
