Early this morning in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood, an explosive event occurred outside of a local eatery, Johnny's Hots. An ATM situated along the bustling Delaware Avenue was blown up around 1:30 a.m., instigating an immediate police investigation. According to NBC Philadelphia, significant damage was incurred, with pieces of the machine found over 50 feet away, although no money appeared to have been extracted from the machine.
Authorities are currently looking to catch the responsible individuals, hoping to glean insights from surveillance footage of the incident. In a scene resembling a thwarted heist, the ATM was visibly damaged but not sufficiently to compromise its metal safe. The culprits were left empty-handed, as reported by 6abc. No injuries occurred in connection with the explosion. Across from Penn Treaty Park, Johnny's Hots, which has broadcasted through their social media that they are temporarily closed for the holiday season, has inadvertently become part of a narrative they did not choose to be written into.
Detectives were summoned to the scene on North Delaware Avenue shortly before the incident happened, as described by Chief Inspector Scott Small, as per CBS Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Fire Marshal and the bomb squad were also brought in to pursue an investigation to understand the cause and possibly to bring those responsible to justice. The Philadelphia Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives task force has joined the search for answers, striving to maintain community safety amid such violent disruptions.
