
On Monday afternoon, a 32-year-old man from Austin was taken into police custody during a routine traffic stop in Round Rock, facing charges related to catalytic converter thefts and narcotics possession. According to CBS Austin, the suspect, identified as Christopher Smith, was found with multiple catalytic converters, tools for theft, and narcotics around 1:30 p.m. near the 600 block of McNeil Road.

"Catalytic converters are used in vehicles to convert pollutants like carbon monoxide into less harmful substances like nitrogen and water vapor, according to Triple-A," as stated by KXAN. Following the arrest, Smith was booked into the Williamson County Jail, but as of Wednesday morning, he had not enlisted an attorney to speak on the allegations against him.
Smith is being held on a $50,000 bond for crimes including possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized possession of a catalytic converter, and unlawful use of a criminal instrument, as detailed by CBS Austin.
