In a stunning chain of events, Baltimore police have taken five people into custody, including a child as young as nine, following a violent carjacking in Southeast Baltimore. As FOX Baltimore reported, officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of East Lombard Street when a 32-year-old woman reported a violent carjacking at around 2:05 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the victim's account, the attackers approached her car as she was stopped at a sign at the intersection of Grundy and Bank Streets. One of the assailants, brandishing a metal tool, shattered the car's window and forcibly pulled the woman from her vehicle. They then fled the scene in her car. The car's description was widely disseminated, and about an hour later, it was located with the suspects in the 1800 block of North Milton Avenue. Following a brief foot chase, the officials apprehended the group, which included a 21-year-old man, two teenagers aged 15 and 16, and a 9-year-old boy, as WBALTV reported.
Subsequent investigations revealed that these same suspects were implicated in an attempted robbery and assault that occurred soon after the carjacking. The incident occurred in the 100 block of South Robinson Street, according to a statement detailed by WBALTV. Police said officers chased down and arrested the individuals involved.
The adults and the 16-year-old have been charged and taken to Central Booking. The 15-year-old was transported to the Department of Juvenile Services for processing; however, the 9-year-old was released into his parents' custody. Details of the specific charges have not been made public, and the investigation is ongoing.
