Jack Callis, a 24-year-old Baltimore Ravens fan who was charged with the assault of Washington Commanders fans, will remain in jail pending his trial, a judge has ruled. Callis was captured on a viral video following an October 13 game, where the Ravens defeated the Commanders, engaging in violent behavior near Cross Street Market in Federal Hill. The incident, which left one victim unconscious and diagnosed with a concussion, has been a talking point on social media platforms, with many expressing shock and dismay.

Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner expressed disappointment at yesterday's hearing about the lack of progress in finding an appropriate treatment program for Callis' substance issues. Callis has a history of substance abuse, having admitted to using cocaine daily for four years, FOX Baltimore reported. Tanner's decision marks at least the second occasion where Callis's attorneys have failed to secure his release on bail.

Judge Tanner noted her displeasure with the defense's proposal during the hearing. "Instead of using the time to tell me what's new and what's available, it was just a catfight today," Tanner stated, according to CBS News Baltimore. The prosecution has levied serious charges against Callis, including one count of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault – cumulatively carrying a maximum sentence of 55 years.

Further complicating Callis's legal troubles is his prior criminal record, which includes probation before judgment for an "alcohol-fueled" assault in 2021 and earlier probation in 2020 for an unrelated assault in Delaware. As per CBS News Baltimore, intoxication was a contributing factor in both instances. The defense's previous request to the District Court for his outpatient treatment, citing his ongoing substance abuse, has been unsuccessful. Callis is scheduled to appear in court on February 3, 2025, according to statements obtained by The Baltimore Banner.
