In a significant move for the East Coast's manufacturing sector, California's Custom Flavors has chosen Concord, North Carolina, for its new production hub, Governor Roy Cooper announced, with a plan to introduce 30 jobs and invest $6.5 million into the local economy. "With a skilled workforce, world-class infrastructure and strong business environment, North Carolina has built a reputation as a manufacturing powerhouse,” the Governor stated, as reported by his official news release.
Established in 2005, Custom Flavors, adept in crafting both liquid and powdered flavors for various industries, aims to enhance their service on the East Coast, with the Concord facility expected to streamline the company's operations ensuring shorter lead times and lessened freight costs for their expanding customer base, and the company's President, Alex Wendling, noted his excitement over the expansion, saying, “We’re thrilled to be expanding our operations to North Carolina and becoming part of the wonderful Concord community,” according to the Governor's office.
With new positions that include food scientists, production operators, and quality control engineers, the average salary for the incoming jobs is slated to be $56,400, topping the current county average, thereby promising a beneficial economic impact, as Cabarrus County warmly welcomes an addition to its ever-growing industrial environment.
The affirmative move by Custom Flavors into Cabarrus County is assisted by a performance-based grant of $34,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, which mandates the attainment of both job creation and capital investment targets before any funds can be received; not to mention the grant necessitates a local government match for it to be effectively awarded, “Congratulations, Custom Flavors, on your expansion to Cabarrus County,” N.C. Senator Paul Newton stated on the Governor's website, acknowledging the potential boost to the local economy.
