The Wawa at 16th and Ranstead streets in Center City Philadelphia will permanently close on December 9. The store, which opened in 2020 as part of a smaller urban store concept, is among several Wawas in the city that have closed since 2020. This information was confirmed by CBS Philadelphia and NBC10.

Wawa is closing one of its stores because its small size couldn’t provide the full experience customers expect. This is part of a trend of store closures in the city, causing concern about convenience and jobs. However, Wawa is offering employees at the closing store positions at nearby locations. Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce said, "It has been a pleasure serving customers at this location for many years, and we are grateful for the support of the local community," as reported by 6abc.

The Wawa at 16th and Ranstead streets has closed, causing concern for people who relied on it in Center City. Greg Martucci, a customer, told NBC10, "People are stealing—all the time. That’s why they’ve got to close—this particular spot, it’s why they’ve got to close. Security is useless." Crime has been a reason for other Wawa closures in Philadelphia as well. However, there are still two Wawas left in Center City, at 9th and Walnut and 17th and Arch.
