A violent confrontation that resulted from a child custody dispute escalated into gunfire on Christmas Eve in Aberdeen, Moore County, leaving one person injured and two homes damaged. As reported by CBS17, the Aberdeen Police Department indicated that two individuals were engaged in the altercation on Victory Lane just before midday yesterday. One of the participants was shot in the back with a shotgun and was subsequently transported to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
The aftermath of the dispute also saw residents caught in the crossfire. "Two houses were struck with bullets," mentioned the police. An investigation led to the recovery of a handgun, which was found about a block away from the scene. In a statement obtained by Sandhills Sentinel, Aberdeen Police Operations Captain Shannon Darling shared that shell casings were discovered scattered in the yard and street, with officials marking at least 18 shotgun and handgun casings.
While one shooter is in the hospital, the whereabouts of the other remains unclear at this time, with the second shooter still at large. Despite the violent nature of the event, authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident, suggesting there is no broader threat to the community. No information has been released about whether the child witnessed the violence unfold, a detail that remains absent in each of the reports by ABC11 as well.
