With a keen eye on the future, Columbus City Schools (CCS) is making strides toward more sustainable and energy-efficient practices. Everett Cavendish, the district's Supervisor of Controls/HVAC, has joined forces with the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy CLASS program, a movement committed to empowering local educational agencies with the tools to foster greener schools. According to CCS's statement, Cavendish has taken the plunge to oversee the current HVAC systems and scout out new, energy-efficient tactics to be kinder to the environment and the school district's budget.
The U.S. Department of Energy recently handpicked 60 Local Educational Agencies to participate in the Energy CLASS program — an initiative poised to take a big leap toward sustainable education environments. These chosen few represent over 1.7 million students nationwide, with CCS among the districts to be bathed in this comprehensive training to cut costs and up the environmental ante. "[I am excited to see] our energy saving," Cavendish told CCS, also expressing enthusiasm for exploring new strategies to optimize the schools' energy use.
It's not just about implementing change but the way these changes are envisioned and executed that matters. Jeffery Roe, the Director of Buildings and Grounds at CCS, remarked on the district's legacy of strong energy management. With several awards under its belt recognizing its leadership in the field, CCS's commitment to eco-friendly operations is not lost on Roe — "CCS has won several awards for its leadership in the industry," he stated in the CCS press release. However, individuals like Cavendish, eager to volunteer for extra duties, keep the legacy thriving.
As the gears shift toward sustainability, CCS awaits the impact of Cavendish's efforts with the Energy CLASS program. Engaging in strategic energy management ideas to refine temperature control and reduce operating costs is a commendable push for positive change. The results, which the district and its eco-pioneer await eagerly, are poised to shape a more sustainable future for students that crafted, over time, by the hands of those like Cavendish with a vision for a cooler, smarter energy plan, state the fact about the importance of the correct energy implementations that are so very vital.
