Dallas City Council Approves $13.65 Million Purchase for New Park in North DallasSource: Google Street View

The Dallas City Council has given the green light to extensive land acquisition in far north Dallas, earmarked for the creation of a new community park. This purchase, coming in at $13.65 million, forms part of a broader effort to bolster public spaces in neighborhoods short on parkland. As per the City of Dallas, existing facilities, including soccer fields and batting cages, will remain open for public enjoyment, with operations continuing under the Park and Recreation Department and existing Adventure Landing management.

The site in question, sprawling across 13.48 acres near Coit Road and the George Bush Turnpike, will await park development funding—most likely, through future bond programs. Within the vicinity are the Preston Ridge Trail to the west, and Twin Lakes Park just three-quarters of a mile to the south, with the anticipated Cotton Belt Trail bordering the north of the property. Council member Cara Mendelsohn expressed her enthusiasm, saying, as per the City of Dallas, "Adventure Landing is a part of the fabric of our community. It’s a 30-year beloved place for families, school field trips, and lasting memories. I’m excited to preserve this community treasure and see more Dallas residents create their own happy memories at Adventure Landing and the Hildebrand soccer fields."

Last month's unanimous approval from the Park and Recreation Board led to this City Council decision. Park and Recreation Board President Arun Agarwal remarked, per the City of Dallas, "With the cost of land in the north Dallas area increasing in value, we are fortunate to secure this property to make sure residents have access to green spaces and new recreational amenities."
